Being a responsible business means having a balanced approach to economic, environmental and social priorities.

We understand that all businesses create environmental and social impact through their activities. Ours is no exception.

We believe in conserving our environment and are committed to actively reducing any adverse effects through buying wisely, using resources efficiently, disposing of waste responsibly, supporting the development of our region, and providing an environmentally and socially responsible service to our guests.

We focus on sustainability as part of our decision making process not because it is fashionable, but because it is a socially responsible approach to conducting business for the benefit of future generations. Going forward, we are looking to identify on-going sustainable solutions.

Our Building and Garden

Our rooms face north and are well insulated to maintain and hold temperature and to reduce noise pollution.
Natural ventilation with windows and doors at opposite ends of each room.
We use energy efficient heat pumps to heat and cool our rooms.
We use compact fluorescent lamps to conserve energy.
We have set our hot water temperature at 55 degrees Celsius.
Dual flush toilets and water flow restrictors were a conscientious design decision to conserve water.
The gardens have been planted with drought tolerant plants to reduce water usage in ground care

Our Amenities and Services

Forest and Bird Guest amenities was specifically sourced, which is 100% biodegradable formulations enriched with Harakeke (flax) oil and Manuka Honey. Every time you use one of these products a percentage of its value goes directly to Forest and Bird to support their invaluable work in protecting animals and wild places, on land and in our oceans.

Guests are encouraged to reuse towels if possible.
Dark "Make up" face cloths are provided to aid in the removal of makeup, which is another simple way to avoid having to use harsh chemicals to remove make up stains from white face cloths.
We use Pure Eco enviro recycled toilet tissue.
Recycling bins are provided in each room to encourage recycling in line with complex recycling.
Did you know that every day, thousands of hotels across the globe, discard millions of pieces of soap? Unfortunately, this soap often ends up in already overflowing landfills and contaminates fragile groundwater systems. To avoid this we collect partially used soaps left behind by guests and return them to our supplier HealthPak, under their "Back to Base" program (a world first recycling program) who arranges for them to be converted into Bio-fuel and commercial cleaning agents.
Hungry bins are provided as a clean, simple and easy way to dispose of organic waste using compost worms. The worms convert the organic waste into worm castings and a nutrient-rich liquid, which are both high quality fertilisers.
We use Fair Trade and organic coffee, tea and sugar where available.
Newspapers are only ordered for guests requiring one, to minimize over supply and wastage.

We use only 100% biodegradable or non-toxic cleaning products, kitchen and laundry detergents.
We use laundry chemicals which are formulated to be productive during cold water cycles.
We endorse green cleaning procedures with the use of microfibre cloths which minimizes the use of chemicals.
We encourage our staff and guests to always turn off lights and equipment when not in use, and to recycle their rubbish using the recycling bins in each room and located towards the rear of the complex.
We have a smoke free policy and we promote a smoke free environment.
We source our products from local or Fair Trade producers where possible.
